Electron  Configuration

The electron configuration is the representation of the arrangement of electrons distributed among the orbital shells and subshells within an atom.

It is given by some specific rules:

Pauli's Exclusion Principle 

The elements that make up matter have specific characteristics that allow them to combine and to react in the different materials we know.  These characteristics have been studied by different cultures since we have hystorical memory.

Quantum Numbers and the Periodic Table

Each period of the Periodic table exhibits special characteristics that allows it to be used to arrange the electron configuration of every element.  As you can see in the picture below, electrons in the different orbitals can be counted and organized horizontally through the periods by using the atomic number as a guide.
